Volunteer at Springfield ReStore

No experience needed. Sort donations, stock the shelves, or ride the truck. Come on your own or bring your whole team.

Getting Involved is Fun and Easy

Show Up. We’ll Teach You the Rest.

Everyone is welcome at the ReStore. Someone walks you through your volunteer tasks, you work alongside people who make it fun, and by the end of the shift you know you’ve made a difference in the store and in supporting housing for working families in your community.

Here are a few details worth knowing before you sign up.

  • How long. ReStore shifts fit your schedule. We ask for a minimum commitment of 4 hours.
  • What to wear. Closed-toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dusty. We’ll hand you gloves if you need them.
  • Training. On the floor, on your first shift, from a staff member or experienced volunteer.
  • Minimum age. Volunteers must be 16 or older.

Many Ways to Volunteer at ReStore

Everyone has something to contribute and we help you find the work that is most comfortable and meaningful for you. Whatever you like to do, we’ll provide training so you feel supported in the work that you’re doing.

ReStore Sales Floor

Straighten displays, help customers find things, and run the register. Good if you like talking to people and want the day to move quickly.

ReStore Donation Processing

Sort what comes off the truck, test what plugs in, clean it up, and price it. This is where most donations turn into something sellable.

ReStore Truck Crew

Ride along on donation pickups, load and unload, and meet donors at their door. Steady lifting, and the best way to see the whole operation.

Volunteer as a Group at ReStore

Companies, congregations, school clubs, and civic groups take a shift together and get a lot done in one morning. A group can process a truckload of donations, reset a whole section of the floor, or work through a backlog that’s been waiting for weeks. Nobody needs experience. We’ll pick the work, brief your people when they arrive, and stay with them through the shift.

Questions About Volunteering at ReStore

These are the questions we get asked the most. Have a question that’s not here? Call the ReStore and ask for the volunteer manager.

No. Everything at the ReStore is learnable in an afternoon, and someone shows you how on your first shift. Most volunteers arrive knowing nothing about retail or building materials, and that has never been a problem.

It depends on the role. Truck crew and donation processing involve steady lifting. The sales floor and the register do not. Tell us what you’re comfortable with and we’ll match you to a job that fits.

Enough time for us to line up the right work and have a staff member free to run your shift. Reach out as soon as you have a date in mind, even a rough one.

You’ll set up an account in our volunteer system, see what’s open, and claim the times that work for you.

Yes, for school and community service requirements. Tell us at the start of your shift so we have the paperwork ready.
